The MA programmes in English enable students to study a broad curriculum in either literature or language through research-led teaching in areas of staff expertise. Each course offers an ideal platform for further research as well as for careers in teaching, publishing or any other occupation in which wide ranging knowledge and high level analytical skills are an asset. You can also take our three-year doctoral programme with its substantial taught component aimed at developing your expertise in Applied Linguistics.
The study of English and History at the University of Huddersfield gives you transferable skills for the world of work including research, analysis and written and oral communication.
Our postgraduates can gain valuable work experience throughout their course with companies such as the Royal Armouries and the Yorkshire Museums and Galleries. We also host international conferences and symposia and welcome speakers from universities across the world to come and pass their expertise on to our students.
Many of our graduates have found employment in teaching, museum services, journalism, advertising, public relations, human resources, publishing or training co-ordination or at such places as the Imperial War Museum, the Royal Air Force, Leeds City Council and Irwin Mitchell.
