Computing is a major part of everyday life. Software, hardware, information systems and games technologies are everywhere. Without this technology you wouldn’t be able to bank online, search the internet, play the latest computer game or share news with your friends on social networks. It’s even essential in the operation of a smart phone, recording a TV programme or cooking a microwave meal!
Our courses cover a diverse range of subjects including the technical, informational, design and business aspects of computing. Our computing courses focus on programming and encompass the design, development and support of computer software; whilst our information technology courses address the design, implementation and maintenance of information technologies to meet the needs of individuals, and business.
If computer games are your thing our courses are taught by staff with real industry experience. They allow you to specialise in design, where you will study topics such as concept development, 3D and animation; or programming, where you will study software design and development, computer science and mathematics. You’ll even get time to experience a real studio environment in Canalside Studios, our award winning commercial games company where there are also opportunities to work as part of a team developing games for a range of platforms.
Whatever you choose, we believe in importance of professional skills and accredited qualifications that can help you rapidly progress in your chosen career. To help you achieve this we pay for you to have BCS student membership and will be going through an accreditation process for our courses with the BCS in 2012 which will apply to course for 2012 entry.
Computing at the University of Huddersfield had an 87% record of graduates finding employment or going on to further study within six months of graduation during 2009/10.
Your career success is our priority and that’s why all our undergraduate computing courses offer an optional one year paid work placement, invaluable for providing you with the employability factor. In addition, you might also get the opportunity to take part in industry competitions such as Microsoft’s X48, where students from competing universities create a game in 48 hours from conception to completion.
Recent graduates from our courses have secured employment and promotion with companies such as Microsoft, HBOS, Jagex, First Direct, Rebellion, Fujitsu, Rockstar, Sony, Hewlett Packard and Santander.
