Theo Paphitis, one of the UK’s best-known and most successful entrepreneurs returned to Savilles Hall in Leeds this Autumn to promote the Enterprise Development BA(Hons) degree to more than 1500 sixth-form students from all over the North of England.
Theo Paphitis has backed this event and the degree referred to as the ‘pracademic’ degree since it first started in 2009 and has been crucial in ensuring its continuing success, not only speaking to promote the degree to young people but also providing crucial mentoring in his Masterclass to students who are considering or have started their own business. This year’s event – the biggest yet – proved such an attraction that some 90 high schools and academies were represented.
Theo, Dragons’ Den star and chairman of stationery experts, Ryman, gave a keynote speech underlining the importance of business and enterprise in this economic downturn – and how to succeed. He was joined by not one, but two dragon slayers, Laura Booth from Wedge Welly and Neil Westwood from the Magic Whiteboard.
As part of the day Professor John Thompson introduced students to the University’s Enterprise Development BA(Hons) degree which enrolled its second cohort of students last year. The degree was developed at the University of Huddersfield in order to enable students to develop their own, sustainable business while keeping focussed on small business essentials such as book-keeping, sales and marketing.Back to news index - Business and Human Resources Management
