Art and Design is a varied and exciting subject to study and here you can really let your imagination run wild. Our art and design courses promote individual and original creative expression and aim to equip you with the knowledge and transferable skills enabling you to develop a unique portfolio of work and forge a career in your chosen subject area. In addition, studio-based activity is supported by historical and contextual studies and business, and that’s a good thing. It means you’ll know the stuff the people in suits know. And be able to develop proper solutions to real life design challenges.
If you’ve ambitions to become the next Matthew Williamson or Zandra Rhodes, Fashion and Textiles is for you. Not only will you be involved in designing, developing and manufacturing exciting products, on some of our courses you learn the business of fashion including marketing products internationally.
If experimentation and innovation is your bag our courses will nurture your conceptual approach and develop your knowledge with live projects. They’ll also equip you with the right skills to enter the industry successfully. It has to be the perfect fit.
Art and Design at the University of Huddersfield had a 95.8% record of graduates finding employment or going on to further study within six months of graduating during 2009/10.
A qualification in an art and design related subject can open the door to many different careers and our graduates have gone on to work for a wide variety of organisations. A degree in an art and design related subject demonstrates a creative mind and many employers look at these skills when recruiting.
It’s worth noting that recent graduates of art and design are now working, in the following areas, to name but a few: gallery artists, designers, teachers and lecturers, PR and media industries, interior design, freelance photography, graphic design, advertising, visual merchandising, styling, wardrobe assistant, stylist in theatre, TV, film, dance and opera!
Art and design can open up careers working for a wide variety of companies and our graduates have gone on to work for companies including Laura Ashley, Lego Toys, Jane Norman, House of Fraser, Abercrombie and Fitch, Karen Millen and Burberry.
