Our Fine Art MA course supports interdisciplinary practice as well as singular dedicated disciplines. We welcome applications from candidates from all forms of contemporary art practice. The flexible programme encourages you to pursue your own interests. Part of the objectives of Master's study in Art is for you to become independent in the way that you organise your learning: for you to organise your study independently and professionally, and to research issues and knowledge that are of interest to you, enabling you to become a professional practitioner. We provide an environment and the advice to facilitate this, you have the opportunity to develop an original approach to the direction of your study. Teaching is supported by tutorials, group critique, study visits and seminar sessions.
At the University of Huddersfield we produce graduates who are culturally sensitive, socially aware and have an understanding of sustainability in order to make an effective contribution to the visual culture through employment or as individual practitioners.
You will have the opportunity to exhibit your work externally in galleries, museums and off-site projects which will provide you with a fantastic opportunity to forge links with external partners.
Most of our graduates have gone on to develop successful careers as practising artists, while others gain employment in gallery and museum industries or Higher Education. Many have struck out on their own, establishing independent design businesses and consultancies and many of our overseas students have returned home to find themselves in demand from their countries’ top employers.
