What’s it about?

Architecture is as much about improving the lives of people as it is about building design. It’s the fusion of art and science applied in an imaginative way to create environments in which communities can thrive. By studying at Huddersfield you will develop your understanding of sustainability in building design and an awareness of wider environmental issues. Our courses provide the context for the future of architectural design but as always at Huddersfield there’s an emphasis on real-world applications and the need to provide high quality spaces and buildings that are appropriate to the requirements of the user. Our Architecture/Architecture International BA(Hons) course is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and provides exemption from the RIBA part 1 examinations.

Be in demand

Architecture at the University of Huddersfield had a 100% record of graduates finding employment or going on to further study within six months of graduation during 2009/10.

It’s worth bearing in mind that to qualify as an architect you’ll need to undertake a further two years’ study plus periods in professional practice, leading to a Master in Architecture/Master in Architecture International and a Postgraduate Certificate of Professional Practice and Management in Architecture (RIBA parts 2 and 3) and a professional qualification as an architect.

Alternatively you may fancy a career in construction management, interior and exhibition design, arts management or journalism, architectural technology, project management or computer visualisation.

Our architecture graduates have gone on to work for companies such as Michael Hyde and Associates, HTP Architecture, DWA Architects and BDP Architects to name but a few.
