About the course
This specialist skills and post- registration development short course may be of interest to those health professionals with an interest in health professional education. This course will help you to develop the competences required in order to demonstrate the application of a range of approaches to facilitating learning in relation to Health Professional Education.
It offers you an opportunity to:
• Develop an understanding of the various learning theories in relation to facilitating learning.
• Investigate and review various teaching strategies in terms of their application to health professional education.
• Practice peer teaching skills with fellow health professionals.
1 year, part-time
30 Master's level credits
• Be a registered health professional with an appropriate governing body.
• Have an Honours degree or prior successful study at Honours level.
For applicants whose first language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, will be considered acceptable, or equivalent.

This short course may assist you to meet the specialist skills and post registration development requirements stipulated by your employer/professional regulator and to develop your skills in health professional education.
Professional links and accreditations
This course is linked to the Nursing and Midwifery Council's (NMC) Standards to Support Learning and Teaching in Practice (Teacher Standard).
Teaching and assessment
You will be taught through a series of lectures, seminars and guided study, which will be supported by the University's virtual learning environment.
Assessment will include submission of an essay (50% of marks) and a presentation (50% of marks). Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.
Feedback (usually written) is normally provided on all coursework submissions within three term time weeks – unless the submission was made towards the end of the session in which case feedback would be available on request after the formal publication of results.
