About the course
This top-up course will give you the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of management. It is a fast track course that builds on the functional areas of business, exploring aspects of management and leadership at introductory and intermediate levels, in both a theoretical and applied context approach. You'll have the opportunity to develop your administrative skills alongside your understanding of organisational change and, as the course evolves, you'll be encouraged to develop an area of special interest through your choice of option modules. It has been developed in close association with employers and professional bodies. We work closely with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and you'll have the opportunity to achieve a CMI Level 6 Certificate in Management and Leadership through no additional study or assessment.

Management Work and Society in Context
In modern society work is important for economic and social wellbeing, playing a central part in our lives. This core module builds on management theory studied in year one, exploring contemporary issues in the workplace and how to deal with them from a management perspective. Topics on this module include the role of gender in the workplace, professional work, the globalisation of work, the labour process, unemployment and the future of work.
Leadership: Process and Organisations in Context
This module examines the challenges faced by those involved in leading and renewing organisations in today’s increasingly complex and dynamic national and global operating environments.
Managing Organisational Design and Change
The module provides an insight and understanding of the concept, theory, tools and techniques associated with organisational design for sustained performance. Organisational design is the process of initial configuration and continual adjustment that enables an organisation to respond to demands and meet challenges encountered in the operating environment.

E-commerce is the buying and selling of goods and services, over an electronic network, primarily the Internet. For many organisations e-commerce has become an essential aspect of their business allowing them to provide value and services that are different from their offline counterparts. In order to understand the e-commerce environment this module will develop your understanding of online business, the importance of developing business and revenue models, the rise of electronic commerce in the knowledge economy and the changing face of marketing to support your business awareness.
Cross Cultural Studies
This module considers the influence that national culture has on behaviour and the implications of this for organisational design and management. The impact that working across national cultures is considered and how the cross cultural manager can be supported in a changing environment. A blend of theory and practice engages the learner in a range of organisational and cultural settings.
Digital And Social Media Marketing
Digital Marketing is a term which encapsulates the targeted, measurable and interactive marketing of products and services through the use of the internet. This module will investigate and explore a variety of digital and social media marketing tools and their implementation within a practical context. In addition this module will help develop your understanding of online consumer behaviour, organisational marketing strategy and online decision making through the use of Web analytics. You will also cover the practical aspects of online brand development and have the opportunity to gain an understanding of integrated marketing campaigns, search engine optimisation (SEO) and social media.
People Resourcing covers a wide range of people management issues from pre-employment (corporate and HR strategic planning, recruitment and selection), initial and continuing employment (socialisation, performance management), to release from employment (redundancy, retirement, exit interviews). The module will focus on the strategic elements of people resourcing and the contribution that these activities can make to organisational success and achieving a high performance workforce in a rapidly changing environment.
The Psychology of Work & Organisations
This module will introduce you to psychological concepts and then you'll have the opportunity to learn, understand and appraise the application of psychological principles and theories to workplaces and organisations. This module will include a critical overview and discussion of personnel psychology, namely, theories of personality and psychometric testing and assessment centres. Furthermore, the module will help you to develop a critical appreciation of human behaviour in the workplace including the nature of employee behaviour, the extent to which the work environment contributes to the physical and emotional wellbeing of employees, group functioning, motivation and performance. Knowledge acquired from this module will provide a foundation for learners to pursue further study at postgraduate level in organisational behaviour, through enabling them to develop a comprehensive understanding of businesses from a psychological perspective.

You can register with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) providing a further qualification and enhancing your CV through membership of a professional body. Upon successful completion of the course and after completing the registration, you can achieve a Level 6 Certificate in Management and Leadership.

Assessment methods, which include assignments, exams and individual project work, are focused upon the development of transferable skills which will provide practical benefit in your career.

The Business School was opened in 2010 at a cost of £17m and is the most eco-friendly building on campus. It's a state-of-the art facility and provides you with a modern, professional environment in which to learn and develop. Located right next to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal it's in a leafy and picturesque location at the heart of the campus.
Excellent teaching rooms combine with fully-equipped computer labs to provide access to technology and learning resources alongside 'The Street' cafe which offers space for socialising, networking and relaxation over a wide selection of fresh food and hot and cold drinks.
How much will it cost me?
The Government is introducing changes which mean that Undergraduate tuition fees may be able to rise with inflation (RPI-X) from September 2017. The University of Huddersfield intends to increase its fees if that is made possible. The increase would be in line with inflation (RPI-X, which is currently 2.8%) and would mean that the full-time tuition fee for home and EU undergraduates would rise from £9,000 to £9,250. All universities that qualify under the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), and fulfil the requirements of the Office for Fair Access (OFFA), would be able to increase fees in this way from September 2017 if the Government's plans do not change. Please note that the fee may also rise in subsequent years beyond 2017/18 by RPI-X.
Tuition fees will cover the cost of your study at the University as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision and examinations. You will have to pay to register with the CMI to gain the Level 6 Certificate in Leadership and Management this is approximately £170. In addition, you will have to pay for text books and printing of course work and lecture slides where required.
You can join the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) during the course. This gives you the opportunity to obtain a Level 6 Certificate in Management and Leadership without any additional assessment. It also enhances your CV through membership of a professional body.
