The University of Huddersfield is absolutely committed to ensuring that the quality and relevance of your postgraduate research studies are of the very highest level. We believe that a high quality research environment informs high quality education and we are proud that many aspects of our research have been judged to be of a world class standard.
Currently the University has over 750 postgraduate research students and more than 800 academic staff spread across 7 Schools and 3 campuses. Huddersfield academic staff have some of the strongest backgrounds in their specialist fields in the world, and Huddersfield is recognised as a centre of innovative research and development. There is no doubt that postgraduate researchers play a vitally important role in this stimulating research environment.
In all its different activities the Graduate Centre is here to ensure that your research career at Huddersfield fulfils your needs and expectations, equips you for a successful future, and enables you to make the very most of the postgraduate opportunity that you have. It provides both intellectual and social contact between postgraduate researchers of different disciplines and from different backgrounds and countries. The Graduate Centre is here to help you to make rewarding contacts outside the close confines of the laboratory or the library, whether within Huddersfield or outside in the wider world. We look after your interests through codes of practice which set out clearly the standards you can expect from the University, but also the standards that the University expects from you. The Graduate Centre Research Student Handbook provides a means for you to manage your research career at the University; it provides a focus to help you to develop skills which you can apply in both academic and non-academic environments and hence which set you up for your future career. Through training courses, seminars and inter-disciplinary programmes we encourage postgraduate researchers to look beyond the boundaries of their chosen discipline, as well as promoting the sharing and broadening of knowledge across disciplines, through societies and competitions.
The Graduate Centre provides support in the form of a number of scholarships as well as access to competitive funds for research trips and participation in conferences. Very importantly we are here to give help and advice on any issues that may arise during your time as a postgraduate researcher at the University of Huddersfield - to help and support when things don’t go to plan, as well as to celebrate your successes.
The Graduate Centre has both a physical and a virtual presence. For face to face contact we operate an open door policy: you are always welcome to visit us in our offices which are situated on Level 10 of the Central Services Building. This virtual presence is constantly under development so please check regularly for updates!
