School of Computing and Engineering
Our School is an exciting place in which to learn and work. We aim to deliver an inspirational learning experience and undertake pioneering research with a practical emphasis. We believe strongly in the quality of the support we offer to our students, employers and all our working partners.
Our staff are innovative and creative practitioners who offer expertise in their field and bring energy and enthusiasm to their work. Their established industry links allow us to continually refresh and update our teaching and research activities, keeping pace with an ever changing and increasingly technological world. This, along with our modern facilities, has allowed us to establish a reputation for the quality and professionalism of our courses, our teaching and our internationally recognised research.
We have a vibrant and rapidly growing research community with expertise in such diverse areas as precision engineering, intelligent interfaces, systems engineering, and diagnostics. In the government's most recent Research Assessment Exercise, 30% of our research activities were recognised as 'World Leading' or 'Internationally Excellent'. Our Centre for Precision Technologies, widely regarded as the best research facility of its type in the UK, has recently received funding to establish an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Advanced Metrology.

The School of Computing and Engineering is currently offering four full fee-waiver scholarships to outstanding international student applicants wishing to pursue research in fields allied to the following National Academy of Engineering Grand Challenges for 21st Century. For further details please visit our scholarships page.
We are among the UK's top ten providers of 'sandwich courses' with our commitment to providing a professional learning experience focusing on preparing our students for careers in their chosen discipline. All of our full-time degree courses offer a work placement year (internship). We place up to 200 students each year, both in the UK and overseas. Examples of companies with whom our students have recently been placed include Cameron Engineering, Cummins Turbo Technologies, DePuy Spine Inc, MadeByPi, Mercedes Benz, Nestle, Red Bull Technology, Vauxhall, Jagex, Hewlett Packard, Sega Europe, Yorkshire Water, Mars Information Services, and, of course, our own Canalside Studios.
We hold a successful record for graduate employment with many of our students returning from their work placement with sponsorship and the offer of a permanent job from their host companies. This is reflected in our graduate employability record with 91% of our students entering employment or further study (DLHE Survey 2012/13).
Whether you are an individual looking for a place to study or a business looking for a research partner, if you are seeking education, inspiration, innovation or business support, we can help.
